The day I was there (first time)with a friend, the place was still in the middle of remodeling. I think the staff may have been new. They were very unorganized, the coffee wasn't ready and we had to wait twice for someone to refill the coffee station. There wasn't any one we can order food from. The flow on how things work to order food wasn't very clear or labeled. The staff were all in the kitchen at once. We waited a long time for someone to come out and take our order. May not be fair only 4 stars but to me they failed in customer service and organization. On the other hand, the place is aesthetically appealing to the eye, if you like the rustic country look. I enjoyed the decor and ambiance. The food was very good and proportions were generous. I will definitely come back in the near future.
Came here with a large group and the amount of food you get is almost absurd. All the entrees were delicious. It's mostly self serve, but they'll heat things and present them nicely. The chicken pot pie bar was amazing. My only problem was the "cheesecake." Was good for what it was, but it wasn't cheesecake. It was crumbly and had a thick coconut base.
This restaurant shows me what comfort food is and it's the only American food restaurant I enjoy so far. Furthermore, I love their new decoration. I'm moving to CA this Friday and this will be one of the top ten things I miss in NJ.
My wife & I absolutely love The Farmer & Chickpea - for breakfast, for lunch, or for grabbing meals to pop in the oven. The food is made with love and served with the most generous of servings. The place is adorable and the staff are always very friendly - at times it can get a bit busy. You have to understand going in that the food is already prepared and re-heated for you to eat. Sometimes people are thrown off by this and also just overwhelmed with the variety of great foods. They have such a great variety of food that is different from anything you ever had. The interior design is rustic with great music playing all of the time. Definitely worth a visit. Do yourself a favor and sit down for some food and then order some more to take home. My wife and I have been enjoying Farmer & Chickpea for years from Jillian at the Rutgers farmer market. We have been trying to visit their store fairly often since it opened.
This place is AMAZING. So many savory vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. I am so happy this restaurant exists. They make going vegan way easier. Their dishes are not only filling but also delicious! Affordable, delicious food and great service. Definitely give their food a try if you haven't already! You will be happy you did and I guarantee you'll become a regular like me.
